This site uses very few cookies of its own. The ones that matter are set by the booking companies when you click through to them — and those are how the site earns its money. This page explains exactly which, why, and how to refuse them.
What a cookie is
A small text file a website stores in your browser. Some are needed for a site to work at all; others record what you do so someone can measure or attribute it. Cookies in the second group require your consent under EU and UK law, and you can refuse them without losing access to anything on this site.

The interactive tools set no cookies at all. The trip planners, the transport comparator, the car hire calculator and the search all run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into them is stored or sent anywhere.
Analytics — consent required
Used to understand which pages are read and which links are clicked, so that time goes into the guides people actually use. The data is aggregated and does not identify you.

Affiliate attribution — consent required
This is the category that matters most here, and the one most sites describe poorly.
When you click a booking link, the destination company sets its own cookie on its own domain so it can tell that you arrived from this site and pay the corresponding commission. This site does not set those cookies and cannot read them.

These cookies are only set if you actually click through. Reading this site sets none of them. Each company processes that data under its own privacy policy, not this one.
How to accept, refuse or change your mind
A banner appears the first time you visit, where you can accept, refuse or configure the non-essential cookies. Refusing costs you nothing: every page, tool and table works identically.
You can change your decision at any time from the cookie settings panel on the site, or by deleting cookies in your browser.
From your browser
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, including those already stored. The settings are under Privacy in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge. Blocking all cookies may affect other websites; it will not affect this one.
Transfers outside the EEA
Google and the booking companies listed above may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, transfers rely on the safeguards required by the GDPR, such as the EU standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
